Otis

Otis

Our hearts are broken as we have said goodbye to the best boy ever… Otis(previously Blake, 2012). For 12 years he was a kind soul and a sweet, loving companion. We adopted Otis four months after adopting his sister as a puppy. He spent the first few months of his life in horrible conditions and was afraid of everything.  It was love at first sight and we wanted to spoil him rotten. Mission accomplished! All of Otis’s favorite toys had squeakers, but he especially loved squeaker balls! He loved to be “chased” around the house and to play tug of war with his toys. He always won.

Five years ago (2019) we moved from Minnesota to Oregon where Otisdiscovered his love for the coast. Otis absolutely loved the beach! He enjoyed prancing along the shoreline with his ears blowing in the breeze. He also loved to share our fresh Chinook Salmon at dinner.

In 2018 Otis developed a tumor on his gum line and underwent two surgeries to remove the tumor and a portion of his jaw. He recovered well from that surgery. In early 2024 Otis lost his appetite (for the first time in his life), and we knew something was wrong. We were able to keep him eating and drinking water, but his activity level had decreased significantly. In March we noticed that his abdomen appeared distended and took him to the vet for an ultrasound where a large mass and fluid was discovered. Otis stopped eating and rapidly lost weight. We couldn’t watch him suffer any longer and on April 3, 2024 had to say goodbye. It has been a heart wrenching loss for our family and we will miss him so much.
